Some of the race reguarding problems have found solutions. So, what spcifically are the problems we face now? Then one problem was segragation, that's quite a clear problem. We no longer have legal segragation, so what do we have?

ReplyDeleteI think that you're absolutely right, legally, there's not a problem, so how do we go about solving these new problems? I go to the Chapel, which is a huge, predominately white church practically on campus. Our pastor is good friends with the pastor of Arlington Church of God, a predominately black church in the area, and we have a lot of events together, but we are by no means becoming the same church or sharing congregations... we call each other "sister churches" and for the most part just co-exist.
There's a lot of discussion about whether or not this is the best situation. And I've always kind of wondered myself... I do not think that it would be the best thing to merge. Our styles are completely different, and a merge would mean either loosing one style altogether, or the formation of a new style completely, which I'm pretty sure is not a goal for anyone. And no one is ready to force people out of one group and into another.
At the same time, I think we would all benefit from more of a mix, from talking over even our religion with people who see differently than us. So I guess the best solution is what we are doing, it just needs more time. The problem wasn't a one week thing, so neither is the solution.
But it really sucks sometimes because it feels like no progress is being made.
